Malaga Airport Guide

Malaga Airport is officially the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport. It has the distinction of being an incredibly busy airport. In fact, only three other Spanish airports are busier. It is strategically situated approximately eight miles south and west of the Malaga. It is the main portal for visiting the Costa del Sol region. The airport serves local, regional, national and international flights.

Airport Terminals

The Malaga is made up of three separate terminals. Terminal 1 is rarely used anymore. There are no flights regularly using the terminal. It now serves as a baggage hall. Occasionally a private airplane or airline will use the terminal. At present, it is scheduled to undergo renovations starting this year. Terminal two is the Pablo Ruiz Picasso building. It consists of three floors with arrival and departures occurring from the ground floor. The basement is used for car rental pick-ups. Terminal three services all airlines. It also contains the food court and other vendor services.

Schengen Travel

Upon arrival guest are in terminal three, they can follow the signs to the escalators that will take them to the baggage claim area. Bus stops and taxis are just outside of this terminal. When checking in guest will also come to terminal three. There is a Schengen zone and then another zone for the remainder of travelers. There are eight six desks for check-in and eight kiosks for self check-in. There are three boarding docks located in terminal three. Dock B is for non-Schengen traffic that is bound for destinations other than Europe. Dock C is for European non-Schengen traffic and dock D is for Schengen traffic regardless of destination. Airport Amenities Malaga is a modern airport with all the amenities. Terminal three has the biggest food court in Europe. There is also a National Geographic Store, it is the first one established anywhere in the world. There are tons of places to eat shop, relax and enjoy. The fantastic steel and glass structure can quickly and efficiently handle the traffic that passes through it each year.

Transportation Options

Transportation to and from the airport is extensive. Upon arrival guest will enjoy a large atrium over the bus station. They can also access train, metro, taxi and private transport services. All the leading rental car companies operate out of the airport too.
